Biography

Johan Söderström is the Region Manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Hitachi Energy. He joined Hitachi Energy’s predecessor (ASEA) in 1986 and has worked in various global and local management positions, within power, electrification and automation and for the ABB Group in Sweden and Switzerland. He was the ABB Group Head of Marketing & Sales and eBusiness from 2000 to 2001 and from 2002 to 2005, he was the Local Division Manager in addition to being Head of Global Marketing & Sales for Automation Products. From 2005-2007, Johan was Executive Vice President and Division Head at Munters AB, a global leader in dehumidification. He returned to ABB in 2007 as Local Division Manager for Power Products in Sweden, a role he held until 2010. Subsequently, he became Country Managing Director and President for ABB Sweden from 2011 to 2019. In parallel, he was Region Manager for Power Products in Northern Europe from 2011-2016. Johan has been Region Head for Europe, Middle East and Africa at Hitachi ABB Power Grids respectively Hitachi Energy since 2020. Johan holds an M.Sc. in Industrial Management and Engineering from Linköping University. He also holds Honorary Doctorates in Technology and Engineering from Uppsala University and Linköping University. Johan was a member of the Board for The Association of Swedish Engineering Industries from 2011 to 2020, and he held the Chairman role from 2015 to 2018. Currently, Johan is a Board Member of Business Sweden and Stena Recycling.
