Biography

Yerai Peña-Sanchez was born in Galdakao, Bizkaia, the Basque Country. He received the Diploma in Renewable Energies Engineering from the University of the Basque Country (EHU), Eibar, Basque Country in 2016. After finishing his degree in 2016, Yerai joined the Centre for Ocean Energy Research (COER) group at Maynooth University, in Ireland, for his PhD under the supervision of Prof. John Ringwood. In 2020, he finished his PhD with a thesis entitled “Hydrodynamic excitation force estimation and forecasting for wave energy applications”. He then worked as a postdoc for a year at the COER designing and building two hardware-in-the-loop systems to test optimal control and estimation strategies for wave energy converters. Then he worked as a postdoc at the mathematics department of the University of the Basque Country in Leioa with a co-funded MSCA on the development of fault detection and identification and fault tolerant control strategies for offshore wind farms. Dr. Yerai Peña-Sanchez currently works as a researcher at the fluid dynamics department of Mondragon University.
