Session description
Auctions have helped to bring about significant cost reductions in onshore and offshore wind in recent years. But global supply chains are under pressure resulting in very small margins and potential losses throughout it. Auction design plays an important role in securing a healthier supply chain by for example incentivising competitiveness via non-price criteria. How should countries apply these criteria to better balance price-only competition? What are the European industry’s competitive advantages that could be better reflected in these criteria? This session will discuss the different dimensions to consider in auction design in order to secure a sustainable, affordable and rapid expansion of wind energy in Europe.
