PO240: Robotic Inspection of In-situ Wind Turbine Blades (SheaRIOS)

Abstract

SheaRIOS is an innovative robotic shearographic wind turbine blade (WTB) inspection system capable of safe, fast and accurate assessment of operational WTBs. It has been developed through the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, by eight pan European organizations with a vested interest in the wind industry. In this paper a brief overview of the methods currently used for WTB inspection will be presented, along with a technical description of the SheaRIOS system, covering its progress from the laboratory to on-site deployment. The knowledge gained, best practice developed and industry feedback will also be discussed.
