We are looking for a Senior Accounting Manager to join our Finance Team in a passionate lobby organisation.
The Senior Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness and compliance of WindEurope's accounting records and financial operations. The role leads and manages the accounting team (2 direct reports) and oversees accounting operations, VAT and tax compliance, statutory reporting, audit coordination and the continuous improvement of accounting processes and procedures.
He/she will report to the Head of Accounting and Finance.
Main duties and responsibilities
Accounting operations, general ledger & period-end close
- Oversee WindEurope's accounting operations, ensuring financial transactions are recorded accurately, completely and in compliance with applicable legislation and internal policies.
- Ensure the integrity and accuracy of the General Ledger and accounting records.
- Perform selected General Ledger accounting activities requiring senior review, judgement or technical expertise, including corporate credit card accounting
- Review and validate accounting entries, account allocations, accruals, provisions and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Ensure transactions are recorded in the correct accounting period and in accordance with accounting principles and internal procedures.
- Ensure the timely and accurate completion of month-end and year-end accounting close activities, working closely with the Finance Controller and wider Finance team.
- Manage WindEurope’s Belgian VAT and tax compliance obligations, including declarations, filings and interactions with relevant authorities.
- Manage European VAT compliance activities, including VAT readiness for events and maintenance VAT roadmaps.
- Lead the annual external audit process and oversee all statutory, tax and reporting obligations.
- Provide guidance on accounting treatment and complex accounting matters.
Team management, procedures & process improvement
- Supervise, manage, coach and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Provide expert accounting and VAT guidance across the Finance team, ensuring consistent application of accounting principles, procedures and controls.
- Support colleagues across the Association on complex accounting, VAT and compliance matters.
- Ensure accounting procedures are documented, maintained and consistently applied.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, system utilisation and automation.
- Support finance system enhancements and contribute to automation and AI-driven process improvements.

Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent accounting qualification.
- Minimum 7 years of progressive professional experience in accounting operations processes.
- Strong experience in VAT compliance, tax declarations and interactions with Belgian and European authorities. Experience with multi-country VAT registrations and compliance is a strong asset.
Software
- Proficiency in Isabel and online banking platforms
- Experience working with ERP systems, preferably Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
Languages
- Professional working proficiency in English, both written and spoken
- Good command of French or Dutch.
