GE Renewable Energy has nearly 40,000 employees present in over 80 countries.
For our Onshore Wind team in Europe, 2020 was a year of great achievements despite the unprecedented logistical issues generated by the Covid-19 pandemic. Be it in Spain, where we commissioned a record 200 turbines in one year, or in Sweden, where we completed the largest wind farm in Europe, or Germany where our Salzbergen factory successfully managed our Cypress platform ramp-up, and many more. We introduced our Cypress 6.0-164 model, due in the field by 2022, and already generating great customer interest. Commercially, we recorded our second biggest year in a row in terms of orders for the region at more than 2 GW. Our Services teams also navigated these turbulent waters, adjusting working protocols to keep everyone safe and business running. All these achievements are the result of great teamwork, agility and resilience that our European team successfully demonstrated.
2020 has been also a great year for the development of our offshore wind business at GE Renewable Energy. Even in these challenging times we have made important progress: we obtained the full type certificate for the Haliade-X 12 MW and 13 MW successively, reached financial close for Dogger Bank A and B wind farms and announced that we will be supplying our Haliade-X 14 MW for the third phase of the Dogger Bank wind farm in the UK. When completed in 2026, this 3.6 GW offshore wind farm will power over 6 million homes in the UK. We also made great strides in the offshore wind ramp up in the US where Vineyard Wind pre-selected our Haliade-X technology for the 800 MW Vineyard Wind 1 farm off the coasts of Martha’s Vineyard (Massachusetts). This year, our passionate team in Saint-Nazaire, France, ramped up the production of the Haliade 150-6MW nacelles for the country’s first Offshore wind Farm off the coasts of Saint-Nazaire.
Despite the impact of Covid-19, the energy transition is accelerating, and GE Renewable Energy is leading the way, unleashing limitless energy.
