Biography

Ralf joined the industry in 1985 upon the completion of his studies as a turbine millwright and consequently his graduation as a mechanical and insurance engineer in 1993. He has devoted his career to the Renewable Energy since 1996 and was originally active in underwriting and insurance placement and later as Loss Adjuster and Manager of major claims. He has profiled as Risk Engineer focused on Offshore Wind and has gathered more than 11 GW of experience as Offshore Wind Advisor and Lenders’ Insurance Advisor. Ralf joined Marsh in 2007 and was until last year leading the Continental Europe Renewable Energy Practice. Since then, he is fully focused on managing major claims across all energy sectors as Head of Claims Germany and the leader of ”ClaimsExcellence”. Ralf continues being a thought leader for Offshore Wind both in his role of the Member of the Management Board “Cluster Renewable Energy Hamburg” and the Member of Trustees of “Offshore Wind Foundation Germany” as well as of “WAB Offshore” Association. In 2011 and 2012 Ralf acted as a Coordinator of the Workgroup “Acceleration of German Offshore Grid Connection” for the German Government and contributed to the present indemnification system of offshore wind farms under the German Energy Act. Over the past decade, Ralf has been Advisor for International Project Companies, Lenders, Investors, Grid Operators, as well as Contractors and Suppliers and has been actively engaged in forums and industry discussions speaking at some 50 conferences. Ralf was the author of two publications for Wind Energy – Handbook Offshore Wind and Handbook Renewable Energy and a Guest Lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences Kiel (Wind Energy Germany) and University of Applied Sciences Arnhem and Nijmegen (Wind Energy Netherlands). Ralf has over the years contributed to the insurability of major wind turbine technologies and continues to be the promoter of new offshore wind technologies and enterprises to achieve insurability, most recently with major focus on Floating Offshore Wind.
