Biography

James Dobbin has been working in the wind industry for 11 years. He is currently a Senior Engineer at Garrad Hassan and Partners Ltd, Bristol UK (part of DNV GL group of companies). He studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bath 1997 - 2002. Before his time in the wind industry, he spent 2.5 years at Weir Strachan and Henshaw (now Babcock). His main expertise relates to wind turbine mechanical systems, including pitch systems, drivetrain and yaw system. His work involves calculation of requirements and specification of mechanical systems. He has also been involved in research relating to reduction of cost of energy for offshore wind through an integrated approach to design of offshore wind turbines and support structures. He also led the contribution of DNV GL Turbine Engineering to the recently completed Innwind EU project relating to next generation offshore wind.
