He has worked as Senior Researcher at Oldenburg University (1988-1994) and Ecole des Mines de Paris (now: Mines PariTech) at Sophia Antipolis, France (1995-1996), as Professor for Renewable Energies at the University of Applied Sciences In Magdeburg, Germany (1997-2009 and as Professor the University of Agder in Grimstad, Norway (2010-2016). Since 2017 he holds the professorship for Energy Engineering of the University of the Faroe Islands in Torshavn, Faroe Islands.
In the field of Renewable Energy Systems, interests are in lay-out, dimensioning, modelling and performance analysis of grid-connected and stand-alone solar-, wind- and hybrid (wind/solar, wind/diesel, ..) systems. Special emphasis is on relating performance characteristics of the systems to the characteristics of the meteorological input variables, including the quality of respective forecasts.
