PO433: Embedding APQP4Wind into Internal Audits to drive Global Quality Improvements
Daniel Ribeiro, Global Quality Improvements Manager, Baettr Sales & Services A/S
Abstract
In today’s complex and globalized wind industry, ensuring consistent quality across products and processes is a major challenge that requires a unified approach. Advanced Product Quality Planning for Wind (APQP4Wind) was created to strengthen collaboration, mitigate risks, and deliver high-quality outcomes from design through serial production. Over time, it has become a widely recognized framework within the wind sector – and for good reason. At Baettr, a global structural components (casted, machined, surface treated and assembled) supplier for the wind industry, the seven steps of APQP4Wind form the backbone of our internal product and process audits. Each key deliverable - such as the Quality Control Plan, FMEA, MSA, and PPAP - is embedded into our audit checklists. This ensures we’re not just ticking boxes, but actively assessing adherence, mitigating risks, and driving quality improvements. By using APQP4Wind as our framework, audits have become more standardized across all factories, more consistent, and more focused on what truly matters for our products and processes. This approach has also shifted the perception of audits - from a mandatory task to a valuable opportunity for measuring the real-world impact of APQP4Wind across the organization. As a result, we’ve seen a significant reduction on customer complaints and concessions, reinforcing the effectiveness of this methodology in elevating our quality standards and creating direct impact for end customers.
