We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics, and will give delegates an opportunity to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in industry and the academic community.
PO429: Assessing Offshore Wind Potential in Türkiye: From Long-Term Data to In-Situ Validation
Elif Dilara Çiçek, Wind resource analyst, usens energy solutions
Abstract
In offshore wind assessments, site-specific measurements from standard-compliant met masts are often unavailable, requiring the use of global and mesoscale datasets such as the Global Wind Atlas (GWA) and EMD WRF+. However, modeling wind in coastal zones remains challenging due to complex topography, land–sea interactions, and inherent dataset biases. To address this, differences between these datasets and available mast data from nearby coastal locations were analyzed for selected offshore sites. Findings reveal that GWA effectively captures overall wind potential but generally provides optimistic results. In contrast, EMD WRF+ shows closer agreement with mast observations, delivering more conservative and reliable outputs. These insights highlight the importance of dataset selection in preliminary assessments, risk evaluation, and project bankability in offshore wind development.
