We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics, and will give delegates an opportunity to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in industry and the academic community.
PO414: Floating Lidar Systems; A view of the past 10yrs to take on the challenges of the next decade
Richard Khaira-Creswell, Head of Business Development / Tech Lead, Partrac
Abstract
Floating Lidar Systems (FLS) have been widely accepted in the Offshore Wind market as the primary method to collect wind data superseding met masts and fixed lidar in driving energy yield assessments. The goalposts for FLS supplier are getting narrower with a focus on improving data availability, inclusion of additional measurements (such as Turbulence Intensity), measuring at higher elevations and in different regions of the world with challenging seasonal effects, and a focus on lower uncertainty. This means innovations are required to provide improved campaign performance to address these requirements. In this talk / poster we will share a FLS supplier perspective and learnings from the last 10yrs as the first step to getting FLS ready for the next +10yrs. We will discuss the alignment to industry standards and how these standards are changing, the extent of innovation in the core FLS offering across the market and what compromises might be introduced as a result, the relationship between developer / FLS provider / and vessel supplier required to deliver a successful campaigns. We will also present the innovation of a FLS supplier has undergone to meet best practice and by-pass the compromises hard coded into older models. The Carbon Trust updated v3 of the OWA Roadmap now introduces multi-variant regression for evaluating Turbulence Intensity accuracy – we will share the results of this analysis and demonstrate the need for HF 1Hz data as one example. IEC 50-4 provides a new method to reliably quantify and remove uncertainty for environmental conditions commonly encountered. This requires FLS suppliers to take steps in developing their data management service allowing for fleet wide analysis driving down uncertainties.
