PO313: Building the Digital Foundation for ESG‑Ready Wind Projects

Abstract
Wind farm projects are inherently complex, involving multiple phases and diverse stakeholders with varying levels of digital maturity. As sustainability and transparency become central to energy infrastructure, the wind sector is evolving beyond operational efficiency to embrace robust Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) data practices. This research maps the entire project lifecycle and the involvement of data stakeholders, focusing on environmental, social, health, and safety dimensions. Wind projects generate vast amounts of ESG-relevant data, from biodiversity assessments and community engagement to carbon accounting and circularity plans. Yet, without a coherent digital strategy, this data remains fragmented, underutilized, and difficult to audit. This study highlights critical challenges such as data silos, discontinuities, and inconsistent data quality, which limit seamless data transfer and integration among developers and subcontractors, impacting ESG and sustainability outcomes. Applying data strategy and governance best practices can transform wind project data into valuable assets, reduce risks, improve decision-making, accelerate transactions, and elevate performance across the project lifecycle.
