Come meet the poster presenters to ask them questions and discuss their work

We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics, and will give delegates an opportunity to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in industry and the academic community.

PO150: How FEA analysis helps to improve design, reduce costs and meet certification requirements of wind turbine foundations. Practical approach and innovative solutions.

Oleg Ishchuk, COO, SDC Verifier

Abstract

We share a practical, project-proven way to cut cost, risk, and schedule for fixed and floating wind-turbine foundations design, by embedding standards automation directly into the FEA loop. The solution turns certification process into automated collaborative workflow, and assembles auditable documentation for all stakeholders, applicable for multiple iterations in the future. It also systematizes asset operational management, allowing to optimize resources.  As turbines grow and sites become bigger and move deeper, design loops across developers, OEMs, fabricators, and certifiers expand – driving steel tonnage, rework, and planning risks. Instead of “more analysis,” all parties should look for fewer, higher-value iterations. This is why parametric FEA design becomes increasingly important; a code-check automation is necessary for every new project; and an asset management system enables understanding of the structural conditions across growing amount of sites and projects.  Outcomes are expressed in business value showcasing benefits for both capital and operational expenses, production/transportation/operation constraints, and design review cycles. The concepts are software-agnostic and easily mapped to established workflows used across the industry. Proven cases for commercial deployment are included.
