Biography

Rodolfo Martinez Campillo was born in Madrid, Spain in 1964. He graduated from the Polytechnic University of Madrid in 1989 with the degree of Industrial Engineer in electronics and control systems. He joined Iberdrola in 1991 working in the Energy Control Systems department as power applications engineer. In 1996 he joined the Generation unit at Iberdrola as manager of the Generation Control System with responsibility over the technical and regulatory development of the electricity market design and real time optimization applications. From 2000 to 2014 he headed the department of electricity market operation with responsibility in the dispatch of Iberdrola’s generation fleet in Spain and Portugal, becoming a member of the Board of OMIE (Spanish Market Operator) from 2012 to 2014 From 2014 to 2018 he joined the Global Regulation Direction as head of the infrastructure regulation department, with global expertise on technology and regulation of transmission, distribution, storage, mobility and distributed energy resources. Since September 2018 he is head of Global Regulation in the Network business area, with responsibility on the global regulatory position of the business across all jurisdictions, supporting the lobbying activities in all countries and leading the advocacy activities at EU institutions. Since 2022, he is responsible for Technical Regulation and European Affairs at i-DE (Distribution branch of Iberdrola) and a member of the Board of the EU DSO entity. In research activities, Rodolfo has participated in the Utility of the Future consortium with the MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and the integrated grid project with EPRI (Electric Power Research Institute). He has co-authored several technical papers with Comillas University in Madrid and Basque Country University in Bilbao in the area of power system optimization and control.
