PO216: "Find, fix and eliminate" approach improved by load sensing, leading to increased service life of main shaft

Keeping the cost of operations (OPEX) as low as possible is important to be competitive on the energy market. One of the main contributor to these cost is the reliability of major components such as the mainshaft. For this reason, SKF has developed inhouse capabilities to repair, upgrade and improve the actual service life of the mainshaft component. To get maximum service life of the bearings inside the wind mainshaft, it’s very important to understand the actual operational condition by getting the real loads from the turbine mainshaft bearings. To get these actual operational conditions, a sensor roller bearing has been developed. This is a bearing with hollow rollers incorporating sensors to measure load, temperature and speed from inside of the bearing.
