PO161: Leading Edge Roughness Aerodynamic Performance /LERAP/
Mille Klintø, Sales Director, Wind Power LAB
Abstract
Wind turbine blades are designed to harvest as much energy as possible from the wind. Damages (environmental, manufacturing, installation and others) and contamination(e.g., dirt accumulation) shift the shape of the blade away from the designed one, consequently reducing its aerodynamic efficiency. Defects located on the Leading Edge (LE) of the blade have the most significant effect on the turbine’s energy production. Furthermore, they can increase the sound emission levels of the wind turbine.
