PO088: Development and validation of smart monitoring systems for wind turbines

Abstract

Wind energy is one of the renewable energies that has experienced the greatest growth. The trend towards larger wind turbines has led to increasing the reliability requirements of their components to reduce the cost of energy. This is why condition-based maintenance is crucial. This work presents the results of a coordinated project between the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya and the Ikerlan technological center in which different condition monitoring systems based on vibration analysis are proposed for the detection and localization of faults and damage. In particular, strategies focused on monitoring pitch bearings are presented; as well as strategies for structural health monitoring (SHM) of jacket foundations in offshore wind turbines.
