Biography

Mr. Christos Smyrnakis is a technical officer in the Projects Directorate of the European Investment Bank. He is responsible for the techno-economic appraisal of projects in the energy sector. He has more than 10 years of working experience in the renewable energy innovation sector and he has worked in transactions of landmark first-of-a-kind projects such as floating wind farms and synthetic fuels. He is a mechanical engineer with postgraduate studies in sustainable energy in the Technical University of Denmark and finance in the University of Pireaus. Mr. Smyrnakis is supporting the Bank’s efforts to open new markets for floating offshore wind in countries that have adopted such targets in their NECPs. In addition, he is supporting the Bank in building a pipeline of candidate projects and SMEs for the venture debt instruments, in the sectors of innovative energy technologies, manufacturing of key components, new services and new business models. He is a contact person of the Bank for projects under the Innovfin Energy Demonstration Projects instrument and a member of working groups on various initiatives for energy innovation financing and advisory.
