Resource Assessment 2019
27-28 June, BEL, Brussels, Belgium
A WindEurope Technology Workshop
What is ‘resource assessment’ all about?
When asked to explain resource assessment as simply as possible, here is what some participants at the workshop said:
“We find where the wind blows!”
Andrea Hahmann, Senior Scientist, DTU Wind Energy
“Because putting a finger in the air isn’t enough!”
Marion Jude, Wind Analyst, Eoltech
“It’s all about the wind!”
Andrew Henderson, Lead Offshore Windfarm Engineer, Ørsted
Why does Resource Assessment matter?
The more accurate your assessment of the wind resource is when you are planning your wind farm, the more accurate the estimation of your Annual Energy Production will be, and hence the stronger your business case and the lower your financing costs. Proper wind resource assessment is therefore a cornerstone of every wind project, especially as the environment for wind projects becomes increasingly merchant.
Who is this workshop for, and what will you learn?
Resource Assessment 2019 will focus on reducing uncertainty when estimating how much wind there is at a given site, through better models and validation tools. It is designed for wind energy professionals who conduct or commission wind resource assessment campaigns, researchers working on wind dynamics and modelling, data scientists and analysts, as well as anyone interested in staying up-to-date on new technology and research developments in this fast-moving and increasingly digital field.
Sessions will focus on new digital tools, such as the New European Wind Atlas, techniques to reduce uncertainty in data analysis, improved modelling at different scales, use of remote sensing devices (LiDARs) to measure the wind and turbulence, and the challenges specifics to operating in forests and complex terrain.
