Biography

Georgios (George) Gkiaouris is a Senior Banker within the Power end Energy Utilities team at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), responsible for coordinating EBRD’s Power sector activities in the Western Balkans region, Greece and Cyprus. George has more than 20 year experience in financing and investing in emerging markets and transition economies with an emphasis on the power and energy sector. Since joining EBRD in 2001, George has led several complex power and renewable project financings in Central and South Eastern Europe, involving syndicated debt, equity and intensive policy dialogue at the highest level in Governments and with local and international investors. Prior to working at the EBRD, George worked for Barclays Capital and for the Commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC) in London, focusing again in power sector financing in Europe, Africa, Middle East and Latin America. George was born in Kozani (Greece) and holds a Masters in Finance from Manchester University and a degree in Economics from Aristotle’s University of Thessaloniki.
