Extreme weather conditions: challenges for wind power production

Turbine Technology (on- and offshore)

When: Thursday, 30 November 2017, 15:45 - 17:00
Where: G105

Session description

Climate is changing, and extreme weather events are likely to become more frequent and long-lasting. This session will look at the impacts of such extreme weather events on operating assets and the energy system, and at the costs of mitigation, with perspectives from academia, industry, policymakers and insurers. This session will be the prelude to a dedicated ETIPWind workshop in early 2018.

Learning objectives

  1. learn about climate scenarios & their impact, both physical and financial on energy production
  2. be able to identify key technical challenges and potential solutions for wind power production in Europe under extreme weather conditions
  3. gain a better understanding of the need for further research on the impact of more frequent and sustained extreme weather events on operating assets
  4. gain insights from the financial / insurance sector on the perception of associated risks
