Sector coupling / wind supporting the transition in other sectors
When: Thursday, 30 November 2017, 14:00 - 15:15
Where: G107
Session description
This session will consider how wind energy can support and help drive forward the electrification of heating that is essential both for the decarbonisation of the economy and to sustain demand for clean power. It will consider how the electrification and digitalisation of the heating sector can also support the integration of variable renewables in the energy system.
Learning objectives
- Learn about the potential of heating electrification to facilitate grid integration of variable renewables
- Learn about the potential contribution of heat pump systems to the electrification of heating and to demand-side flexibility
- Understand the requirements in terms of grid infrastructure for an efficient electrification of heating
- Understand the challenges that heating electrification presents to grid operators
