Session description
Dis- and misinformation around wind energy are on the rise. The thread is serious: misinformation can lead to project delays and cancellations. That way, misinformation already costs our industry billions of Euros. But it also creates the seadbed for mistrust and anti-wind sentiments. It is used as a strategic weapon to undermine Europe’s competitiveness and security.
WindEurope and CASM Technology have analysed how wind energy-related misinformation spreads across Europe. Which countries are most affected? Which false claims are most oftenly used to undermine wind energy development? And who are the actors spreading these claims?
This conference session will start with a presentation of the WindEurope and CASM Technology analysis. The panel will then discuss how Europe can fight back against organised disinformation attempts. What is the EU doing already to identify and mitigate misinformation? Which quality standards do journalists apply to avoid falling in the misinformation trap? And which role can the wind industry play in setting the record straight?
