We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics, and will give delegates an opportunity to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in industry and the academic community.
PO497: Curvature sensor for static cables at J-tubes
Vilhelm Rydén, Senior Analysis Engineer, NKT HV Cables AB
Abstract
A curvature sensor for three-core dynamic cables have previously been developed and tested (Rydén/Tyrberg, Jicable 2023). The sensor was primarily developed to capture the curvature variations of dynamic cables in regards to fatigue life monitoring. In this paper, the authors suggest to use the same sensor for monitoring static export cables, or potentially the smaller array cables. The sensor itself may be mounted either in the central space of a three core cable, or attached externally to the cable, such as in a tube. In particular, the freespan of static cables exiting a structure such as a J-tube may be of interest as this part of the cable is often subjected to movement during its operational life. Numerical simulations prior to deployment is therefore required to ensure cable integrity during its lifetime, based on metocean data. Data from the curvature sensor could be used to validate numerical models, and provide real life data from actual operation in real weather conditions.
