Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in industry and the academic community.
PO484: Project WINd. Upskilling technical workers from unsustainable energy sectors to boost employability in the fast-growing wind industry
José Manuel Melendi García, Innovation, Standardisation and Projects Manager, REOLTEC, Spanish Wind Technology and Innovation Platform
Abstract
The rapid growth of the European wind sector is creating a significant demand for a skilled technical workforce, while the ongoing energy transition requires pathways for workers from unsustainable energy sectors. The Erasmus+ co-funded WINd project addresses this by developing a targeted reskilling programme to facilitate the transition of these workers into the wind industry. Implemented by a consortium across Portugal, Greece, Spain, Germany, and Belgium, the project’s core is a comprehensive VET curriculum designed to bridge identified skills gaps. Based on extensive stakeholder feedback, the curriculum focuses primarily on wind farm operation and maintenance—the area of highest demand for qualified personnel. The curriculum is supported by a full suite of Open Educational Resources (OERs) and delivered through a flexible, self-paced Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), making high-quality training widely accessible. This presentation will detail the project's methodology, the structure of the training resources developed, and the initial results of its implementation, offering a replicable model for workforce development that supports both industry growth and a just transition.
