We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics, and will give delegates an opportunity to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in industry and the academic community.

PO469: Cybersecurity of AI-Enabled Data Centers in Wind Integration

Friederike Waschke, Global Head of Sales Operations and Finance for Industrial Cybersecurity, Siemens Energy

Abstract

Efficient load management and accurate forecasting enhance the economic performance of offshore wind projects. AI innovations promise to better optimize these key tasks, but also introduce new vulnerabilities. This paper explores the interdependencies that result from using AI for load management and forecasting, and their cybersecurity implications. Notably, AI data centers participate in the energy system both as major consumers that demand ample and reliable power, and as support infrastructure that optimizes the management of energy infrastructure.  These dual interdependencies promise either a virtuous cycle in which AI both consumes electricity produced by wind power and enables efficient wind power production, or a vicious cycle in which wind power effectively subsidizes competing power sources when attempting to use AI to optimize forecasting.  To succeed, AI used for load management and forecasting must be supplied with reliable power, must be in communication with its data sources and the assets under its management, must be trusted to operate as intended, and must comply with local regulations.  This paper will propose cybersecurity architecture that will bolster the resilience of AI data centers powered by offshore wind, and/or used to optimize offshore wind infrastructure management.
