PO468: Offshore wind energy standardisation. Where should efforts be focused to improve standardization in the offshore wind energy sector

Abstract
The "Offshore Wind Energy Standardisation" project will conduct essential pre-normative work to advance the harmonization of standards for offshore wind turbines. The primary objective is to perform an exhaustive technical revision of the EN IEC 61400 series to identify key aspects, existing barriers, and European standardisation needs specific to the offshore environment. This will be achieved through a dedicated CENELEC Focus Group, which will collaborate closely with the CLC/TC 88 Secretariat. A parallel workstream will analyze the application of EN 1090-2 to offshore wind turbine foundations, addressing the current gap where manufacturers rely on varied national standards. This analysis aims to determine the most effective path toward developing a unified technical specification for the stability of these foundations. The project will produce a clear roadmap with solutions for the identified needs, deciding on the necessity for new standard sections or entirely new standards. A significant part of this initiative will be the dissemination of findings to raise awareness and engage stakeholders across the industry. The ultimate goal is to create a more consistent and reliable standardisation framework, reducing complexity and fostering growth in Europe's leading offshore wind energy sector.
