Come meet the poster presenters to ask them questions and discuss their work

We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics, and will give delegates an opportunity to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in industry and the academic community.

PO423: Increasing quality and efficiency in energy yield estimation for wind farms

Martin Schneider, CEO, anemos Gesellschaft fuer Umweltmeteorologie mbH

Abstract

In order to achieve the expansion targets for wind energy set by the German government, it is necessary to develop a large number of wind farms in a short time. The basis for wind farm planning at a new site is the estimation of the expected energy yields and the selection of suitable wind turbines.  Currently, the yield estimation is subject to high uncertainties. It is time-consuming and cost-intensive, particularly due to the one-year wind measurements currently required. The aim of the project is therefore to enable qualitatively better yield estimates in a shorter time and at significantly lower costs by making improvements along the entire process chain.  To achieve this goal, methods are being developed that provide a better wind database (new 1 km anemos wind atlas) for the wind industry. The 1 km anemos wind atlas for Germany represents a database containing long-term time series for all relevant atmospheric parameters. The fundamental task after simulation with WRF (Weather Research and Forecasting Model) is the optimization process (i.e. the correction of systematic deviations) and the intensive verification of the wind atlas with the help of numerous measurements. Finally the optimization process improves the wind atlas time series and statistics as well as the frequency distribution, diurnal and annual cycle.
