Come meet the poster presenters to ask them questions and discuss their work

We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics, and will give delegates an opportunity to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in industry and the academic community.

PO407: Accuracy of ZX 300e wind direction measurements

Seyi Latunde-Dada, Senior Algorithm Scientist, ZX Lidars

Abstract

The ZX 300e series of ground-based CW lidars manufactured by ZX Lidars is a hardware and software upgrade of the ZX 300 series. This includes updates to the data processing and filtering algorithms that enhance both wind speed and wind direction accuracy and data availability as well as hardware improvements to increase power-saving and user access.   Under highly controlled conditions, the wind direction accuracy of a ZX 300e lidar has been determined to be +/- 0.5 degrees. This high measurement accuracy is achievable because 50 line-of-sight measurements (akin to 50 beams) in a scan are used to estimate the wind direction.  Furthermore, the measured 10-minute averaged wind directions by ZX 300e lidars deployed at a range of sites and under different weather conditions had mean absolute deviations from the reference measurements of less than 5 degrees. This high measurement accuracy facilitates the use of ZX 300e lidars in a wide range of applications such as wind-assisted propulsion systems, wind farm sector and layout management as well as aircraft launching and landing.
