Come meet the poster presenters to ask them questions and discuss their work

We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics, and will give delegates an opportunity to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in industry and the academic community.

PO371: Analysis of suitable tools for Mapping the Potential of Utility-Scale Hybrid Wind–Solar PV Power Plants (HPPs).

Luis Arribas, Researcher, CIEMAT

Abstract

At the European level, in response to the energy market disruption caused by the Russia–Ukraine War, the European Commission launched the REPowerEU Plan. Under this initiative, Spain updated its recovery and resilience plan (RRP), funded by the NextGenerationEU program. Within Spain’s RRP, Component 17 specifically focuses on infrastructure improvements, including the enhancement of the R&D&I capacities for hybrid renewable technologies. Within this framework, one of the goals is the development of a map that identifies the potential for utility-scale hybridization in Spain, which is the research addressed in this publication. From the different levels at which the potential of a renewable energy resource can be assessed, this research is mainly focused on the economic potential, covering both resource and technical potential assessment. For this purpose, high spatial and temporal resolutions are foreseen, so that main temporal and spatial variations are addressed within the assessment. The research will bring a suitability map, identifying the areas where the profitability analysis of an utility-scale hybrid power plant makes sense, performing such analysis for those areas. This paper is focused on the suitability analysis of the existing tools available to perform this profitability analysis, when used on a GIS application at a regional on national level. Both commercial and open-source tools can be found: a special focus will be made on existing open-source tools, that allow a more general replicability.
