We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics, and will give delegates an opportunity to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in industry and the academic community.

PO202: Turning Data into Warranty Value: Digital, contract-aware, fact-based WTG availability warranty management

Johs Vamberg, Lead Data Scientist, PEAK Wind

Abstract

We present a contract-aware, digital approach that hinges on close collaboration between data science, contract management, and commercial contract terms - using shared knowledge models and a standard claims governance to quantify availability, accelerate sign-off, and secure justified recoveries. This leads to a common understanding of the contractual basis and application within operations. Ultimately, the goal is to have an automatised claims/carve-out allocation, driving efficiency for both parties. Despite the effort that goes into the negotiation of the WTG availability warranty under either an SMA or OMA agreement (detailing clearly the defined risk allocation split that both Parties agree to) such warranties are often not managed in a consistent and contract-aware manner such that the asset owner typically loses out by not adequately defending OEM/Operator claims/carve-outs that reduces compensation they are due or increases incentives that they are subject to pay. Asset owners often lack the transparency, data readiness, and relevant processes to independently verify OEM/Operator-reported performance and ultimately challenge the performance data that is provided to them by the OEM/Operator. Where an OEM/Operator successfully transfers liabilities to the asset owner that contractually they should be responsible for, operational inefficiencies will continue. Conversely a contractually compliant warranty regime ensures the OEM/Operator focuses on improving their performance to reduce their liabilities (with an implicit net benefit overall). Key enabler is to have access to relevant raw SCADA data and analytics competences matching data with contractual carve outs. This study will exemplify such approach showing how effective management can result in a repeatable, secure pipeline that improves auditability and negotiation outcomes through full transparency down to 10-minute intervals while building site-team capability through a governance calendar and PDCA-style continuous improvement.
