Safety, Performance & Leadership Coach , CAVU International
Biography
Sam Cowan served as a fighter pilot in the Royal Air Force for more than 17 years, flying the Tornado F3 and the multi-role Typhoon (Eurofighter), where he worked as a front-line Squadron Executive Officer responsible for keeping people and aircraft ready for Quick Reaction Alert and deployments. He commanded multiple detachments worldwide, honing calm, high-pressure leadership and a deep understanding of elite team dynamics. Following RAF service, Sam flew as a civilian contractor instructing in the Middle East and Far East, gaining valuable cross-cultural perspective and accumulating 3,000+ fighter hours, while also developing, analysing, and examining Standards and Evaluation procedures to maintain best practices and safety. In 2005, institutional failures led to him ejecting from a Tornado F3 at 500 mph over the North Sea; despite serious injuries including a broken leg and spine, he recovered and continued his flying career. Inspired by those lessons, he later transitioned into corporate training, designing and delivering bespoke workshops, and is now excited to work with CAVU to deliver Safety, Leadership, and Performance training.Posters
