Biography

Abolfazl is a PhD candidate in Mechanical Engineering at Flinders University and a member of the Advanced Wind Energy Technology Group. He began his doctoral research in April 2023, with support from VAWT-X Energy Pty Ltd in South Australia and in collaboration with Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands. His research focuses on exploring unsteady aerodynamic features that drive Darrieus vertical-axis wind turbine (VAWT) startup performance and developing strategies to address startup challenges and load fluctuations. His work contributes directly to the ongoing development of the VAWT manufactured by VAWT-X Energy in Australia. He earned his BEng in Mechanical Engineering (Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer) from the University of Birjand in 2015 and his MEng in Aerospace Engineering (Aerodynamics) from Amirkabir University of Technology in 2018. Abolfazl has published multiple peer-reviewed papers on VAWT aerodynamics using computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
