Biography

Bert Conings is a senior engineer at Sirris, the collective research center for the technology industry in Belgium. He has 17 years of experience across academia, industry, and applied research, with expertise spanning renewable energy, cost modelling, and technology assessment. Bert obtained an engineering degree in applied physics and a PhD in physics, specializing in materials science, after which he worked as a university researcher, developing novel materials for PV applications. He then broadened his career in industry as an innovation manager in engineering and as a quantitative risk model manager in finance, before joining Sirris to focus again on energy technology, and offshore renewables. At Sirris, he develops advanced techno-economic models for complex energy systems, mostly focused on offshore wind operations, maintenance, and decommissioning.
