Specialist, Spatial Ecologist, DHI A/S
Biography
Dr. Sofia Ferreira has nearly 15 years of research experience in marine ecology and climate. She is currently a spatial ecologist at DHI, Denmark, where she develops tools to support offshore wind planning and marine biodiversity protection. She holds a BSc in Marine Biology (University of Algarve, Portugal), an MSc in Fish Biology and Management (University of Bergen, Norway), and a PhD in Marine Ecology and Climate (Technical University of Denmark), focusing on species distribution modelling under climate change. After her academic career, she moved into the applied sector, contributing to projects on marine spatial planning and environmental impact assessment. Her work combines spatiotemporal modelling, hydrodynamic data, and machine learning to quantify ecosystem vulnerability. With international experience across Europe, Greenland, and the USA, she bridges science, policy, and industry, helping align offshore wind expansion with biodiversity protection.Presentations
