Mechanical Engineer, PhD | Chair of the Board, iWind Renewables S.A.
Biography
Panagiotis Chaviaropoulos holds a Diploma and an MSc in Mechanical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA, 1982) and a PhD from the same institution (1987). He continued as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Laboratory of Thermal Turbomachines (1987–1994), before joining the Wind Energy Department of the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources (CRES) as Head of the Modelling Group (1994–1998). From 1998 to 2014, he served as Director of the Renewable Energy Sources Division at CRES, managing 55 research associates across all renewable energy sectors. He co-founded iWind Renewables S.A. in December 2014 and currently serves as Chair of the Board. With over 30 years of experience in R&D, he has coordinated and participated in more than 40 European and national research projects, specializing in wind turbine aerodynamics, aeroelasticity, and complex-terrain wind-field modelling. He has authored over 150 publications in international journals and conferences and co-edited two books on optimal aerodynamic design. He has served on numerous European committees, including as President of the European Academy for Wind Energy (EAWE, 2006–2007), Vice-Chairman of the European Wind Energy Technology Platform (2007–2012), Greek Representative in the SET-Plan Steering Group (2008–2012), and member of the Greek delegation to the Energy Committee of the European Framework Programmes (FP5, FP6, FP7, Horizon 2020; 2000–2014). He received the EAWE Scientific Award (2010) and the Aiolos Award (2013) from the Hellenic Wind Energy Association.Posters
