It’s 2026 – and Europe has no time to lose. Global competition is intensifying. Russia’s war on Ukraine continues and the transatlantic partnership remains uncertain. Meanwhile China is rapidly electrifying and innovating. And all the while dis- and misinformation is on the rise – undermining unity and public support for decarbonisation.
Net-zero isn’t just nice to have – it’s a strategic must. And wind energy will be the catalyst – delivering cheap, clean and homegrown power for an independent Europe.

Wind is Europe’s greatest energy asset – and it’s vital that we tackle false narratives and come together to tackle to bottlenecks to further wind buildout. This year in Madrid we’ll be looking at the many ways wind delivers for Europe – and what we can do to ramp it up further.
- Wind is cheap: We’ve done the sums – wind and other renewables are the cheapest option for Europe by far – even when you factor in all the energy system integration costs.
- Wind is clean: Our modern wind turbines have practically zero water or environmental footprint. 90% of its mass is recyclable – and we are committed to reusing, recycling, recycling and recovering all turbine components for 100% circularity.
- Wind is strategic: Wind energy is entirely home-grown and European. It provides hundreds of thousands of jobs across the continent and brings investment to rural and coastal communities. It gives Europe a competitive edge, driving electrification and reducing our dependence on fossil fuels from unreliable foreign powers.
