PO215: Wake steering optimization under fatigue load constraints: a bin-wise approach

Abstract

When implementing wake steering control, AEP uplift come at a cost for the wind farm: the misaligned operating mode has an impact on the mechanical loads and vibrations seen by the turbines, so there is a production - fatigue compromise to be considered. AEP optimization problems under fatigue constraints that can be cast to address this issue, considering cumulative damage equivalent loads, are usually computationally demanding, especially when many DELs and many bins are considered. In the present study, a simplified but tractable formulation of the AEP optimization problem under multiple fatigue constraints is proposed and solved for a small offshore wind farm, with interesting results.
