Senior Research Engineer, Offshore Wind Infrastructure-lab
Biography
Prof.dr.Wout Weijtjens has been a researcher in the field of offshore wind energy for over 10 years. He is currently senior researcher in the Offshore Wind Infrastructure lab (OWI-lab) and a Professor at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. At OWI-lab the focus lies on collecting data from operational offshore wind assets and turning this data into tools for decision support. With a primary focus on structural health of the substructure, he focused on topics such as load monitoring for life time extension and optimized operation of wind turbines and trying to close the gap between real-world observations and design. Currently he is involved in the 'Forced Oscillations' (FOOS) project, a Flemish research project to investigate the impact Active Tower Dampers on lifetime and the grid.
