Lifetime extension of the support structures of offshore wind turbines with proactive structural health management

Oleg Ishchuk, COO, SDC Verifier

Abstract

This case study explores how digital structural health monitoring can significantly extend the operational lifetime of offshore wind turbine support structures. By leveraging an online, collaborative environment tailored for operators, inspectors, and engineers, we enable continuous tracking of fatigue damage, smarter maintenance planning, and real-time awareness of structural integrity. Collaborative platform allows to keep the data about assets, loading history, drawings, 3D models, fatigue analysis data, inspection tickets, action points, and structural health dashboard in one place: available for all the stakeholders of the operation, lifetime extension, or decommissioning of the asset. In collaboration with a leading industry partner, we demonstrate how data-driven decision-making transforms asset management from reactive to proactive - maximizing safety, reliability, and return on investment.
