Biography
Born on 19 October 1962. Sandor Gaastra is married and father of a son and a daughter .
Sandor Gaastra studied law at the university of Utrecht, specialization of Public and Administrative Law. After his graduation he first worked within the faculty of Law in his field of expertise of the university of Utrecht.
He then joined the Ministry of Interior and Kingdom Relations where he first worked as a policy advisor. Then he was Head of Cabinet of the Secretary-General to consequently become Director of Human Resources, Organization and Information of the Government. As such, he was responsible for the related policy of the government as a whole.
In 2008, Sandor Gaastra was appointed deputy Director-General within the directorate Public Order and Security, responsible for Police and Emergency Services. In 2010, this Directorate merged with the newly created Ministry of Security and Justice.
In 2013, he was appointed Director-General Police within the Ministry of Security and Justice. He was thus responsible for the well functioning of the Police.
Since September 2016, Sandor Gaastra has joined the Ministry of Economic Affairs, where he has been appointed Director-General Energy, Telecommunications and Competition. As such, he is responsible for the Energy transition, Information-network development and for Competition and Consumer policies.
