Session description
To reach our energy and climate targets Europe needs to build many more wind farms. We need public support for this. But despite the need for this large build-out there is also opposition to new projects. This is often rooted in valid concern but in many cases caused by fake news which has been disproven by science. Developers have different ways of dealing with this. But what is the best way of approaching a community? How do developers deal with groups spreading fake news? And overall, how do they manage to flip this narrative into a positive one? In this session we’ll confront developers with imaginary scenarios covering topics ranging from economic benefits, biodiversity and health issues. They then have to come with creative and innovative responses to these issues.
This session will be a gamified session on community engagement – with roleplay scenarios on how to approach communities when building a wind farm. We'll start the session with a quiz on fake news and continue on with experts providing creative approach to community engagement.
