Come meet the poster presenters to ask them questions and discuss their work

We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics, and will give delegates an opportunity to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in industry and the academic community.

On 9 April at 17:15, we’ll also hold the main poster session and distinguish the 7 best posters of this year’s edition with our traditional Poster Awards Ceremony. Join us at the poster area to cheer and meet the laureates, and enjoy some drinks with all poster presenters!

We look forward to seeing you there!

PO204: BENEFITS AND CHARACTERISTICS OF DIGITAL TWIN TECHNOLOGIES APPLIED TO THE OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF OFFSHORE WIND FARMSBENEFITS AND CHARACTERISTICS OF DIGITAL TWIN TECHNOLOGIES APPLIED TO THE OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF OFFSHORE WIND FARMS

Letícia Soares Teixeira de Souza, Researcher, Creation Group

Abstract

Offshore wind energy is one of the renewable energy sources with significant growth potential for the coming years. However, challenges such as climatic and meteorological conditions of the marine environment and the distance from the shore to the wind farm site complicate the execution of operation and maintenance (O&M) activities. In this context, O&M activities are directly related to costs, as decreased turbine reliability affects financial returns due to increased O&M costs and reduces energy availability. Therefore, it is essential for O&M activities to be carried out efficiently, prioritizing quality and reliability to minimize costs. The digital twin (DT) adds value to maintenance because it is a tool that can be executed in real-time, with the capability to update parameters online to detect physical variations, allowing for monitoring the operation of wind turbines. Given this context, the question arises: "What types of DT are there and how can they enhance O&M for offshore wind farms?" In response to this question, the study aims to present the types of DT in terms of capabilities and characteristics, and their benefits for application in O&M of offshore wind farms. The study was conducted in four stages: i) bibliographic research on offshore wind energy and DT; ii) analysis of DT application cases; iii) systematization of information; and iv) structuring of characteristics and benefits. As a result, six types of DT were identified, along with important factors for their implementation. The main identified benefits of DT include: reduced O&M costs and impact on reducing OPEX; increased reliability; improved decision-making; greater efficiency in resource use; and ease of collecting sensitive data.
