We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics, and will give delegates an opportunity to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in industry and the academic community.
On 9 April at 17:15, we’ll also hold the main poster session and distinguish the 7 best posters of this year’s edition with our traditional Poster Awards Ceremony. Join us at the poster area to cheer and meet the laureates, and enjoy some drinks with all poster presenters!
We look forward to seeing you there!
PO157: Simulative investigation of scaled testing of plain bearings as wind turbine main bearings
Jan Euler, Research Assistant, Center for Wind Power Drives
Abstract
Sustainable energy supply is an outspoken goal for Germany and the European Union alike. The expansion of wind energy is a clear component of this goal. One aspect of this expansion is the development of ever greater turbine models, to maximize the harvestable energy of each individual site. From the increase in size new challenges arise and turbine models experience failures before their designated end of service. Future wind turbine generations will also require testing and certification on large scale component or system test benches. While turbines increase in scale, large scale test capacities are not given for every scale or highly limited in their availability. Other branches of engineering such as automotive, railway or aero-/hydrodynamics employ scaled testing methods to reduce costs and expiate testing procedures. Approaches exist in academia to investigate the scaled behaviour of wind turbine subsystems such as power conversion or the gearbox. To the authors knowledge however, an approach for the holistic scaled testing of wind turbine subsystems is not state of the art. This study therefore aims to explore the effects downscaling has on component and subsystem testing on the basis of a plain bearing main bearing design developed at the CWD - the FlexPad.
