We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics, and will give delegates an opportunity to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in industry and the academic community.
On 9 April at 17:15, we’ll also hold the main poster session and distinguish the 7 best posters of this year’s edition with our traditional Poster Awards Ceremony. Join us at the poster area to cheer and meet the laureates, and enjoy some drinks with all poster presenters!
We look forward to seeing you there!
PO117: Wake model validation in the offshore environment
Adrián Amid, Principal Consultant, Wood PLC
Abstract
Accurate estimation of wake losses is critical to decrease the risk associated with energy yield predictions of offshore wind farms. Reliance on engineering wake models is widespread in the wind industry, as such models are accessible through most commercial wind analysis software packages, providing a cost-effective path to wake loss calculation. However, validation studies of engineering wake models remain limited, covering small numbers of wind farms and short periods of wind farm operation. This study offers a comprehensive validation of three commercial engineering wake models applied to wind farms across Northern Europe and Asia. The validation process follows a framework proposed in other research work, by comparing 10-minute resolution SCADA data to modelled results and estimating the associated level of uncertainty. We further explore the benefits of ensemble wake modelling and the implications on long-term wind farm energy yield predictions, which are key to the financing of wind energy projects.
