Posters

Come meet the poster presenters to ask them questions and discuss their work

We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics, and will give delegates an opportunity to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in industry and the academic community.

On 9 April at 17:15, we’ll also hold the main poster session and distinguish the 7 best posters of this year’s edition with our traditional Poster Awards Ceremony. Join us at the poster area to cheer and meet the laureates, and enjoy some drinks with all poster presenters!

We look forward to seeing you there!

PO095: Grid Forming Requirements Evolution in Spanish Market

Juan de Dios López Leiva, Technical and Industrial Director, Asociación Empresarial Eólica (AEE)

Abstract

As Spain advances towards a higher integration of renewable energy sources, the stability and reliability of the electrical grid become increasingly critical. The technical adaptations to fulfil grid forming operation will allow renewable generators to actively participate in stabilizing the grid, ensuring that frequency and voltage are maintained even during fluctuations in supply or demand. In the process and developing and implementing such adaptations, it is key to define the relevant technical requirements, considering the particularities of each of the involved technologies (i.e. Wind Turbines can already provide some inertia effect due to the kinetic energy stored in the rotor itself. Such requirements are also being addressed at European Level through ENTSO-e, so it is of the utmost importance that there is a compatibility between the results of this process and the European Grid Codes. On top of a correct and complete definition of requirements, the establishment of performance standards, and the creation of simulation and testing protocols to evaluate grid response under high renewable penetration scenarios needs to be addressed as well. Furthermore, it is crucial to explore the integration of grid forming technologies with existing grid infrastructure, considering Spain's unique energy landscape. The objective of the whole process is to create a comprehensive framework that facilitates the reliable operation of a grid increasingly powered by renewables and considering the ambitious Wind Energy installation targets in Spain, ensuring both energy security and sustainability, as well as economically viable markets that will sustain both implementation and evolution of technologies and operational procedures.
