PO081: Main aspects and logistical factors in the installation of floating offshore wind farms.

Abstract
Increasing offshore wind capacity is critical to achieving global energy transition goals. Floating wind technology offers an opportunity for countries with high wind capacity and deep coastal regions. However, this technology is still in its maturing phase and has several challenges to be overcome. The logistic challenges faced especially in the installation phase, when overcome, can result in significant reductions in costs, mainly in LCOE, which represent around 5-10% of CAPEX. In this context, this research aims to analyse the main logistical aspects and their factors in the installation phase of floating offshore wind farms. To achieve this objective, a research method was conducted in 3 steps: (i) Exploratory research; (ii) Case studies in leading regions (Europe, United States, South-East Asia and China), and (iii) Systematization of logistical factors. The results indicate 5 main logistical aspects that must be analysed, with 55 factors corresponding to each one: electrical infrastructure (15 factors); offshore and onshore substations (9 factors); port infrastructure (17 factors); land and maritime connectivity (7 factors); and assembly and installation operations (7 factors). Understanding and overcoming the logistics challenges in installing floating offshore wind farms is essential to ensure that projects run on time, on cost and reach their full potential. In this way, it is expected that efficient logistical plans, based on the critical analysis of aspects and factors such as those identified in this research, will significantly reduce the costs of installing floating farms and support owners in their decision-making and in the maturity of this technology.
