We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics, and will give delegates an opportunity to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in industry and the academic community.
On 9 April at 17:15, we’ll also hold the main poster session and distinguish the 7 best posters of this year’s edition with our traditional Poster Awards Ceremony. Join us at the poster area to cheer and meet the laureates, and enjoy some drinks with all poster presenters!
We look forward to seeing you there!
PO048: Vision for the greater North Sea for 2040
Sophie de Reus, Project Lead Nature Friendly Offshore Energy, The North Sea Foundation
Abstract
We are excited to present the North Sea Vision for 2040—a comprehensive plan that envisions a healthy, clean, and sustainably used North Sea. This vision outlines the essential actions needed between now and 2040 to achieve this goal. While the Netherlands has made commitments up to 2030 through the North Sea Agreement, there is currently no international framework in place for the period after 2030. To address this gap, The North Sea Foundation, Natuur & Milieu, Vogelbescherming Nederland, and WWF NL are advocating for an international, long-term, ecosystem-based master plan for the North Sea with nature at the core. , The Greater North Sea Basin Initiative (GNSBI) is a likely governing body to develop this plan. This plan should establish clear agreements on the spatial distribution of activities and the manner in which economic operations are conducted in the North Sea, with a strong emphasis on preserving and enhancing natural ecosystems as a priority. Our vision is centered around six key strategic directions that chart the path toward a nature-friendly North Sea: 1. An International Master Plan 2. Spatial Measures 3. Quality Measures 4. Monitoring and Adaptive Management 5. A Nature Investment Fund 6. Policy Harmonization Across Nations
