We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics, and will give delegates an opportunity to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in industry and the academic community.
On 9 April at 17:15, we’ll also hold the main poster session and distinguish the 7 best posters of this year’s edition with our traditional Poster Awards Ceremony. Join us at the poster area to cheer and meet the laureates, and enjoy some drinks with all poster presenters!
We look forward to seeing you there!
PO009: Securing the energy transition through vessel digitalisation
Andrew Duncan, Renewables & Innovations Director, North Star
Abstract
For those in the renewable energy sector, embracing digital transformation is crucial for achieving decarbonisation objectives and advancing the industry. Offshore infrastructure support vessel operators can ensure fleet reliability and longevity by building highly efficient ships with the latest digital technologies and retrofitting existing fleets to prepare for a digital future. At North Star, we are advancing our decarbonisation strategy across our fleet, including our hybrid-powered service operations vessels (SOVs) designed for the renewables market. These high-performance assets offer premium comfort for offshore wind technicians and serve as logistics hubs. North Star is the UK's leading offshore infrastructure vessel support services business. With nearly 140 years' experience in maritime operations, we have a 1,400-strong workforce and a fleet of 42 assets. This includes the first three of four SOVs bound for the Dogger Bank Windfarm. Two more are being built for EnBW and East Anglia THREE. All are 10-year minimum charters. We also have two larger Commissioning SOVs under construction, bringing our total SOV fleet to eight Our goal is to add 40 hybrid SOVs to our fleet by 2040, and through partnerships with key technology providers, we are integrating advanced digital solutions to optimise offshore wind operations. For example, we are integrating digital twin and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to streamline maintenance activities across our SOV fleet, whilst simultaneously bringing in advanced enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems to help gather and present relevant data. This presentation will highlight the importance of working with technology partners to drive results, showcasing how the adoption of real-time performance management through digital twinning enhances operational efficiency and vessel reliability and highlighting the results these proven technologies are making.
